Doggie Wheelchair Donation

Move Mutt has received a VERY generous donation of a wheelchair for dogs with hind leg problems.

We would like to see that this amazing piece of equipment is used for the purpose intended; to assist individuals with handicapped dogs who may never otherwise be able to afford the necessary equipment to improve the quality of their dogs life.

Although this is a custom piece, originally designed for an 80 lb. Golden Retriever, I have tested it on my Australian Shepherds, and it works wonderfully for dogs their size too (60 lbs.).  I would say that dogs ranging in weight anywhere from 55 lbs. - 100 lbs. would be able to use this chair.  It is the M/L version, rated for dogs up to 99 lbs. and sells for $410.

We would like to provide this chair as a "loan" to individuals who can use it, for as long as necessary with their dog, until they can either; a) acquire one of their own, or b) no longer have use for it (dog has healed or passed).

If you are in the Southern Nevada area and know of anyone who can benefit from this amazing donation, please contact Move Mutt and we'll begin from there.

Move Mutt is happy to assist with fitting, use and developing a safe and healthy recovery/quality of life plan for the dogs using it.

Hi Move Mutt! I don't know if your offer is still available, but I thought I should send you a few lines. My name is Rocky and I am an 11 years old German shepherd. In April this year I started to have problems with my hind legs and didn't respond to any treatment. In time my problems have become more serious, and now I can hardly stand and get tired very quicly when my owner takes me out for a walk in the park. After a couple of minutes I start dragging my left hind leg really bad. I love my owner dearly and I am part of his family, and I suffer when I see him so sad for not being able to help me. So I started to search the internet for a wheelchair, but I soon came to the conclusion that my owner wouldn't be able to pay such amounts. And then I found your offer, and I decided to give it a try, although I don't know if it is still standing. Unfortunately, I am not in Southern Nevada. As a matter of fact, I am not even in the US. Me and my owner and his family are living in Europe, in a country called Romania. I am sure he could probably pay for the shipping fees from US to Romania. Well, this is it. I don't know if you will reply, but I hope you will. Thank you very much. Woof woof! I am wagging my tail. Best regards, Rocky P.S. I am sending some pictures of me taken several years ago, when I had no health problems: http://picasaweb.google.ro/valinash/Rocky and http://picasaweb.google.ro/valinash/RockySWinterWonderland. I hope you will enjoy them.

I have a 14 year old germansheppard/chow mix that has arthritis problems and can hardly walk but I cannot afford to buy him a wheel chair. He is about 40 pounds, if you can help it would be appreciated. I would return it when he no longer needs it.

I am sending this request for a wonderful dog named Dakota who resides at Safe Harbor Animal Shelter in Jupiter, FL. Dakota was adopted but returned after the family found she needed extensive surgery on her spine and they couldn't afford it. The Safe Harbor Clinic performed the surgery but now Dakota doesn't have the use of her hind legs. She is young - about 2 years old I believe. She is so strong that she pulls herself around the office where she spends her time now. She loves greeting everyone and she's more than willing to give you her belly to rub. Someone at Safe Harbor is taking cash donations for a wheelchair for Dakota and I'm trying to do my part to possibly find an organization that would be willing to donate a wheelchair to Dakota in hopes that she can have a better life and find a home that would welcome this beautiful girl. Thank you for any help you can give Dakota.

Is your chair still available? We are just starting a Doggie Wheelchair Lending Program for the Summer of 2012 and have had 3 chairs donated to date. We get dozens of requests each month and could really use more chairs. All donations are tax deductible!

i dont know if you could help, but im goin to try anyway. i have been searching for help to get my dog, shorty a dog wheelchair. i have looked online and most of the ones i see r $300-$500. and i cannot afford it. i did find one on ebay for $160 but im still not able to afford it. im even looking for someone to build her a home made one. we live in ky. ill tell u shorty's story from what i know. i have had her for about 9 months, she is about 1 yr 3 months old. she is a very good dog. she is a pit mix. she went missing 3 weeks ago. i thought she had got in a fight with another animal and died. or that someone stole her.( we live on 16 acres surrounded by national forest so there r a lot of wild animals) but she finally made it home. she was dragging her hind end, she had no feeling from mid back back. i took her to the vet and they said she has a fractured vertabra in her back. from that vertabra back she has no feeling. i had the choice to put her down but couldnt. they said she could have some what of a normal life with help. and im willing to be there for her. and she has a lot of will and stength. i know for sure she went at least 1/2 a mile like that(could have been a lot farther not sure how far she had to go to make it home) but she was determined to make it home. and since she wants to live im goin to give her the chance. but like i said i need help so she can move around better. i help by holding her back end up so she can move better but she wants to go faster than i can. and if i dont help her shell drag her back end causing sores. but if anyone can help me by donating a lil money or helping in anyway id greatly appreciate it and im sure shorty will to. thanks sioux, shorty and family

Hi Shorty & Family, I certainly feel for your poor baby and am thrilled that you have him back. We just shipped our wheelchair to a dog named Breezy in Texas. You can follow Breezy's progress on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/MoveMuttCo However, I am in contact with an individual in Washington state who is interested in donating his dog's wheelchair, as she has just passed. It is amazing to me how huge the hearts of both our doggie and human angels are out there. Even in a time of pain and sorrow they are thinking of helping others. I will keep your information and keep you posted as to the progress we make in getting more chairs donated. Your entire family is in our prayers!

Hello! I am the owner of a three year old beagle Dale. We live in the Atlanta, GA area. Dale recently suffered from IVDD and spine disorder that has left him paralyzed in his hind legs. It has been a heart breaking experience but I am hopeful that with therapy he can make a full recovery. However, this requires several months of cold laser therapies and acupuncture in combinations with medicines. This has been VERY costly. I am a 22 year old college student, so needless to say it is financially very difficult for me. I know a wheel chair would GREATLY improve his quality of life. It breaks my heart that he cant move around. If anyone can help PLEASE contact me. Thank you, Jenn

I'm writing on behalf of our furry family member, Gracie. Gracie is a 9 1/2 year old Australian Shephard mix who suffered some type of spinal injury three weeks ago leaving her without the use of her left hind leg. She is unable to move it or feel it. Gracie has been seen by several vets and a neurologist without success. At this point, the vet has suggested a wheelchair as the only option to helping her get around. (Even if something were surgically repairable, Gracie is not a good candidate because she's already had two ACL repair surgeries on both back legs which have left her with bad legs even prior to this situation.) Because my husband is on SDI for his own back injuries, coupled with the expenses of three sons in high school and college, we are not able to purchase a wheelchair for Gracie. We did find a used, metal wheelchair but it's proving too heavy for Gracie to drag with her ~ and impossible for my husband to lift her into alone. We are hoping to find a lightweight wheelchair for our 80+ lb. Gracie-girl. She misses her daily walks, her runs in the back yard, and simply her ability to get around the house and/or yard without getting tripped up, literally, by her "dead" leg. Any help that anyone can provide is much appreciated by Gracie and her family. We love our girl so much and want to see her quality of life improved restored as much as possible. Thank you SO much for anything you can do!! Nanci

We need a wheel chair desperately for our beautiful 10 year old australian shepard mix, Sadie. She had a heat stroke and is paralyzed from her hip to the end of her tail. She is so depressed by not being able to be clean and active. We can see the light of hope leaving her eyes. She was a rescue and has given everyone who has met her so much love. Please help us. Thanks for all you can do. Dawn

My 14 yr. old, beloved Weimereiner mix, Jesse has atrophied muscles in his back legs and hips and is unable to walk unassisted. I would love to have a wheelchair for him to get exercise and be able to move around the house on his own. This trial is becoming too much for us both. If you still have your wheelchair for donation or "loan", please let us know. Desperate, and very appreciative. Thank you.

My 12 year old black Lab, shadow is a tripod, he did an amazing job until now. Last year he had to go thru a spinal surgery as he was unable to move around. He had a broken disc for Whig he got operated and was doing fine, but since a month he is unable to get up. His front paw cannot make him stand, and now even the hind legs are giving a problem. Shadow had an accident since he was one, he is a miracle dog, and wags his tail even in this crisis when he can't move around. I tried buying a pet bed on wheels to move him around, but that does not help him. Can someone donate a wheel chair for him....

Our beloved German Shepard is in desperate need of a wheelchair to help him move around. He has degenerative mylopathy and has begun to struggle with holding his hind end up and walking around. My fiancé and are trying to pay for our upcoming wedding, I am unemployed finishing up graduate school and we have realized the cost of a wheelchair is just too much for us right now. We are looking for any kind of wheelchair to be donated that would hold up an 80lb. Dog. If anyone could help us out that would be wonderful. We first thought about just putting him down but he is just still in such great high spirits I can't bring myself to do it. Any information is welcomed! Thank you on behalf of General.

I have a Walkin Wheels wheelchair that is less than 6 months old, it gave our dog the opportunity to have many fun walks. Cassie had to be put to sleep last night and we would love to donate this to someone who has a handicapped dog. She was an Australian Shepherd about 60 lbs.

A dear family member to me is my 15 year old german shepard charlie. He has struggled a lot in his life; 13 years ago we found him on the street after he was hit by a large truck. we took him in and he has overcome many obsticles such as socializing and not being afraid of everything. It seems as though his previous owner had abused him. Soon, he became one of our own. He is an older dog now that truely enjoys his days outside but cannot because he has severe arthritus, and struggles to move his hind legs. With a donation of a wheel chair (he is 40 lbs) he can continue enjoying his care free life.

Hi! I rescued 2 precious chihuahua puppies in March; they were born on Valentines day. They both have severe front leg deformities. Madi has a lil chicken wing for one leg and the other leg is short with 2 paws on it, she can walk tri-pawed! Ellie May has only 2 lil nubs for front legs. She is 4.9 pounds at 5 1/2 months, she will probably be around 6.5-7 pound full grown. She hops around like a bunny or walks standing up bent over. The vet says she needs a cart to help her because she is going to have damage to her spine because of the way she gets around. I am looking for a wheelchair for Ellie May to help her walk freely and live a long happy doggie life. Can someone please help or let me know of a low cost wheelchair? I have searched for months and free or low cost front limb deformity wheelchairs are really scarce. I have a friend who does metal work, so I may be able to revamp a used back limb cart for a small dog too. Thanks for your help!

Hello I am the owner of a wonderful pitbull named Nelly he is 8 yrs old. Nelly has become paralyzed and cannot use his hind legs. Nelly just had spine surgery to correct herniated disks. We did what we could so that we could keep him as a part of our family. We need a wheelchair for Nelly so he can continue to live the life that he has been used to living. We are praying that Nelly begins to walk again and we hope a wheel chair will only be temporary. We will appreciate any help that anyone can give to us and Nelly!

Hi Secondhand Snoots Rescue in Illinois has 3 puppies in need of rear wheel carts. One is an 8 month old great Pyr puppy, another is a 12 week old beagle mix and the other is an 8 week old doxie puppy. Would you have any carts you could loan out until the necessary funds could be raised to purchase the carts they so desperately need? It is hoped that the Great Pyr puppy and the beagle mix may eventually regain use of their legs as they have both had corrective surgery. Unfortunately nothing can be done for the doxie puppy :(

This is the same technique we use to teach a young puppy not to nip or bite too hard. If you say, "Ouch" or "Don't lick" every time your dog licks you, he may respond by not wanting to cause you pain.
